Hey Yall! Welcome to the new Brittani’s Bubble! I know it’s been awhile and the site looks a mess right now but it’ll come together. I didn’t want to wait until everything was “perfect” to start writing again, I just wanted to write.
Anyway, everybody gets stressed. Work and life gets chaotic and I know you want to fly into a fit of rage because of it but you can’t. That has adverse effects( especially in the workplace) so I want to give you 5 ways to destress so you don’t lose your cool…or your job. Let’s get into it!
1. Micro-Breaks = Major Saves
One of the quickest ways to burn yourself out is pretending you’re a machine that can power through eight hours without stopping. (Spoiler alert: you’re not a machine, you’re a whole human being.)
Taking micro-breaks, even just a minute or two every hour, can keep your brain sharp and your stress levels low. Step away from your desk, stretch, grab some water, or even just look out a window to calm your mind. Giving your mind tiny “permission slips” to reset throughout the day is like adding little pockets of air into a tight schedule. It prevents you from hitting that dreaded 3PM wall where everything feels impossible.
If you’re worried about looking like you’re not working, just know: a refreshed you works better than a stressed-out zombie version. Trust.
2. Protect Your “NO” Like It’s Your Credit Score
One thing about work stress, it multiplies when you keep saying “yes” to things you don’t actually have the time or capacity for. Learning to say no (politely but firmly) is a game-changer.
Think of your time and energy like your credit score: protect it, nurture it, don’t overextend it for the sake of looking nice. It’s not rude to set boundaries; it’s actually a professional skill. You’re allowed to decline extra projects if they don’t fit your current workload. You’re allowed to request breathing room. And newsflash: you don’t owe everyone a full explanation.
A simple “I’d love to help but I’m currently at capacity with XYZ” is clean, respectful, and unarguable. The people who respect you will understand and the ones who don’t? They were going to drain you anyway.
3. Reframe That Sh*t
Stress often comes down to the story we’re telling ourselves about what’s happening. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask yourself:
“Will this matter in five days? Five months? Five years?”
If the answer is no… congratulations, you just spotted a stressor that doesn’t deserve premium mental real estate.
Reframing doesn’t mean pretending everything is sunshine and rainbows when it’s not. It’s about consciously choosing where to focus your energy. Bad meeting? Tough client? Annoying coworker? Instead of spiraling, think: “This is just a moment, not my whole career.” The ability to zoom out and get perspective is like a secret weapon against workplace chaos.
4. Keep a “Wins” Folder
When work stress is making you question your entire existence (“Am I even good at this? Should I join the circus?”), it’s time to pull out receipts…literally!
Start a Wins Folder in your email, Notes app, or even a physical notebook. Any time you get a compliment, a good review, a project win, or a “you crushed it” message, save it there.
On days when imposter syndrome or frustration hits, spend a few minutes scrolling through your own greatest hits. It’s proof that bitch you’re doing a good job, even when the day feels like a dumpster fire. Plus, it’s a little dopamine boost that reminds you why you started in the first place.
5. Move Your Body, Not Just Your Fingers
Desk jobs trick you into thinking you’re “resting” because you’re sitting down, but your nervous system says otherwise. When you’re sitting in the same spot for hours, your body holds onto tension like it’s saving it for a rainy day.
Movement is medicine, even if it’s just quick and dirty. Stand up and stretch. Walk a fast lap around your office or home. Roll your shoulders back and down. Shake your hands out like you’re trying to fling bad vibes away (because honestly, you are).
You don’t need to change clothes or hit the gym to get the benefits. Small bursts of physical movement tell your body it’s safe to relax, helping you break out of the stress spiral before it takes over.
I hope these tips help you stay calm and keep your job. If you don’t all of this and you still feel like sh*t, it might be time for a change. I know it may be hard especially now but trust me it’ll be worth it for your mental health!
